UPDATE-school closure March 19, 2020

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Earlier today, Governor Holcomb issued an Executive Order mandating a statewide school closure until May 1, 2020.  Beginning Friday, March 20th, the Bloomfield School District plans to cancel any remaining scheduled days of eLearning and instead fully close (UNTIL MAY 1ST).

The Bloomfield School District, in conjunction with our community partners, plans to continue offering food assistance for families during our extended closure.  If you need to reserve food assistance for the week of Spring Break, please contact the BSD Cafeteria at 812-384-9520 by 9:30 AM on Friday, March 20th.  Food assistance following Spring Break for the duration of school closure will be offered beginning Monday, March 30th using the contact information above.

We acknowledge many families have questions concerning what lies in the days and weeks ahead.  The BSD administration and Board of School Trustees will work in conjunction with the guidance provided by Governor Holcomb, Indiana Department of Health and the Indiana Department of Education to develop our plan moving forward.

The safety and security of our students and staff is our number one priority. Additional information and further updates will be shared with families using the district’s communication platforms.  We thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate these difficult and unprecedented times.

Educationally Yours,

Jeff Gibboney

Welcome to the Bloomfield School District. We serve grades PK-12 on one campus – which includes Bloomfield Elementary School (PK through Grade 6) and Bloomfield Jr.-Sr. High School (Grades 7-12). Our students are pushed to learn and achieve academically through a variety of core curriculum and support services that meet the unique educational, social and emotional needs of each child. Our faculty and staff work with students and their parents to provide quality educational opportunities in a structured, safe and supportive learning environment.

As superintendent, I am proud of the opportunities our district continues to provide for our students. Bloomfield Elementary School offers a robust curriculum, including we Engineering is Elementary. We believe in inspiring innovation in today's classrooms to engage students in discovering their inner engineer as they become lifelong STEM learners. Bloomfield Jr.-Sr. High School offers students an educational experience supported by our Digital Learning Initiative. All students in grades 7-12 are issued a Lenovo 11E Chromebooks at the start of each school year. Bloomfield Jr.-Sr. High School offers students the opportunity to earn college credits at little or no cost to parents, we are the only school in Greene County to be accredited an Early College High School by the Center for Excellence in Leadership of Learning at the University of Indianapolis. We support an active FFA which participates in state competitions, as well as a world class NJROTC program that was recognized as a Distinguished Unit for Area 3 last school year.

These are just a few examples of the wonderful activities taking place in our schools.  If you are interested in joining the Bloomfield community, please contact me directly at (812) 384-4507.  I would love to share with you all of the reasons why Bloomfield School District is a very special place.

Educationally Yours,

Jeff Gibboney, Superintendent
